Dr. Michelle Mills knew she wanted to be a veterinarian at a very young age. She was just 5 years old when she found her first injured patient and attempted to “doctor” his limping leg with toilet paper and scotch tape. The timid feline enjoyed the attention and free meals. Dr. Mills first began her “real” career in the veterinary field in 1999 as a kennel technician and quickly worked her way up to veterinary technician.
Dr. Mills graduated with honors from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology. Pursuing her dream, she went on to graduate from the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine with her doctorate in veterinary medicine. During veterinary school, Dr. Mills served as an AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) officer to further implement only outstanding quality veterinary care in small animal practice. She also volunteered at a local zoo and had the opportunity to work with injured or non-releasable raptors, bears, and bobcats. In addition, she diligently volunteered on both the Navajo and Apache Indian reservations, through Veterinary Missions, to address their overwhelming animal population problems. Since veterinary school, Dr. Mills has served the Acworth, Kennesaw, Marietta and surrounding communities providing excellent veterinary care with compassion. Currently, Dr. Mills is an active member of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. In addition, she maintains professional associations with the American Animal Hospital Association.
Her special interests include ultrasound, internal medicine and preventative care. She believes that client education and practicing top-quality medicine are the most important aspects of her career. She is passionate about veterinary medicine and dedicated to outstanding care, while treating your pet like her very own.
Dr. Mills was very excited to pursue her dream and open Mills Animal Hospital in 2017. Since opening the clinic, she has established an incredible close-knit team that she considers part of her family. Mills animal hospital was nominated and won the Best go Georgia in 2024. In addition, Dr. Mills was nominated and won an award by the University fo Georgia, College of Veterinary medicine in 2024, for her excellence in practice wellness and how she adjusted her practice, while protecting her team, during COVID-19 pandemic.
In her spare time, Dr. Mills enjoys spending time with her family while being outdoors. Dr. Mills and her husband, Shawn have a combined hobby in krav-maga. They are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters and many rescue fur-children.
She looks forward to serving your family and getting the opportunity to build relationships with you and your beloved pets!
